Cold Spring Brook Memorial Park

World War I and II Veterans Memorial

Dedicated in the 1950s

In the 1940s Lewis Parkhurst purchased land along Cold Spring Brook and gifted it to the Weston Community Association. Added to this property was an additional gift from the Waite family. Together the land was designated to be a memorial to the veterans of World War I and II.

On Sunday, August 20, 1950 during an Old Home Day weekend, the Cold Spring Brook Memorial Park was dedicated. So it stood for more than 50 years until Hurricane Irene in 2011. Torrential rain carved out a channel of little stability and damaged the existing dam.

Repair and Second Dedication

It took more than a decade to undo Irene’s destruction. In 2022, the Weston Community Association and the Weston Conservation Commission completed work to repair and restore the Cold Spring Brook’s stream channel, remove the damaged dam and re-landscape the park.

The final steps were the planting of 825 daffodil bulbs by the Green Mountain Gardeners, and the installation of an informational kiosk. Today Cold Spring Brook Memorial Park is a testament to Weston almost 100 years of residents working together to create an enduring memorial.
